What a week!!

Well, well, well. Considering the fact that I haven’t written anything in here for over a week now, should tell you guys how insanely busy I’ve been!

For somebody that works a part time nanny job, you would think that I have like a TON of free time, right? Wrong. Let’s just review.

My husband works like 148 hours a week. Therefore, I try to do as much as I can around the house, and with the trio of animals that live with us. ((Lets just get one thing straight, we do NOT have normal animals…Schwartz is the most social and annoying cat in the United States. Franklin has special needs, seriously, he has seizures and serious anxiety, but also loves cereal and popcorn. Then theres Piper, and well, we all know how she is, based on my last post.

WE LAUNCHED OUR BUSINESS!!!! Whattttt?! I poured a LOT of time into putting together this little shop of ours, and it exploded SO much faster than I expected! That means I had a lot of work to do, so we could get our orders out quick!

My best friend HAD A BABY! Her third son, Everett Trace Check, and I love him so much already! I had the chance to take pics of this little one’s first hours with his family and big brothers, and it was so nice. It’s crazy to think that Tyler and I have been friends since we were little teenagers, and now I’m the Godmother to 2 of her kids!

Detroit Lions tickets went on sale, and we bought tickets to the first game! Super excited to tailgate and see our boys on the field for the first time in WAY too long!

I’ve been spending a lot of time in my office, here at home, trying to get things organized, and set up as much as I can. It’s been so much fun working with Matt (in the 2.3 hours of spare time that he has) trying to get this company off the ground! We have more ideas, and more that we want to share, but when the time is right, we will fill you in! For now, we are working on the apparel and drink ware!

As a former Beachbody Coach, I feel like I’ve got a LOT of social media experience, but I would love to hear tips on how YOU make your at home business work! Share with me all your secretsssss!

I promise I’ll write a more entertaining post tomorrow, or maybe tonight after I have some wine…haha!

Pup’s Night Out

Hands up if you are the proud parent of a fur child! More specifically, a dog. A young dog. A young, very energetic, and sometimes too sassy dog.

Let me just give you a glimpse into the evening we had last night with our little animal that we like to call Macaroni ((legal name, Piper Macaroni Hughes)).

Quick backstory: Matt’s parents live in Saginaw, Michigan. Their backyard consists of a lot of soy bean field-age ((<– that is not a word, I’m aware)) and wooded area. Which means there are often visitors like deer, coyotes, foxes, birds, etc. It’s a lovely area, where Piper likes to frolic IN the backyard, and she doesn’t ever go further because she’s a damn genius and knows better.

Welp. She suckered my mother in law into taking her potty last night around 10 pm, when it was pitch black outside, and since it was just a quick ‘pee break’ we didn’t put the leash on her. ((You know where this is going, right?)) I walked to grab a water, and next thing I know, Matt’s yelling for me because Piper has bolted after a deer that was standing in the back yard and snorted at her ((rude)). She gone.

Piper has the body and agility of a female deer, so as you can imagine, she was literally gone and out of sight within seconds. IN COMPLETE DARKNESS. We grabbed the flashlights, and started yelling for her, trying to see if we could hear her collar jingling anywhere nearby. My MIL got in the car and started driving towards the direction she ran, Matt and Larry started walking out into the fields, and I stood helpless in the backyard, with the hopes that she would just hear me and come back. ((She’s not the brightest, so my faith in this option was slim))

After what seemed like forever, and confusing lightning bugs with Pipers glowing eyes about 4,500 times, I finally saw two glowing eyes bouncing up and down, plowing towards me. IT WAS PIPER. Or a deer, or some other vicious animal running at full speed right in my direction. I didn’t care. I started calling her name more and getting really excited so she knew where to run to ((her idiot self got confused and didn’t understand how to run towards me, so kept going down the aisle of the soy bean field)). She was back, and EXTREMELY out of breath. She trotted right up to me, and up to the back door as if nothing happened. I called the search party back in ((took me a bit to get my father in law back because he was so far out, but alas, he showed up too)). It was requested that I mention Larry walked 7 miles. For the record.

After about 45 minutes of non stop panting, she decided it was time to cause more headache for all of us, and barf up what looked like arugula salad and pine needles, then she trotted off to bed. What a ruff life.

Let me tell you, what a feeling of complete helplessness. There was nothing we could do but call for her, and hope that she would come back, and I am SO HAPPY that she did. I guess she’s smarter than I thought, she is COMPLETELY out of shape, but smart nonetheless.

I bet she is super excited to get home and tell her cat brothers about her first night out as an almost 21 year old (in dog years). She’s feeling it today though, for sure. As are all of us.

Give us all the coffee. Shout out to my in laws, and my husband for helping to bring back this spoiled rotten dog. We all know sad we would be if we would have lost her for good.

Knicker Knacker Bocker

So, this morning I posted on my Facebook that I had all these brilliant ideas and thoughts at 3 am, but when I was actually able to process these thoughts and ideas, I was drawing nothing but blanks. I’m currently sitting on the couch, watching Tyler the Hollywood Medium, scrolling through my feed on Facebook, and also Pinterest, and also Instagram…and I have thoughts now. So here they are.

First. I’ve been told more than once recently that I have a ‘knack’ for social media…what the f is a ‘knack’ anyway? Like a knick knack? So I’m being compared to small items on dusty shelves? Odd. Anyway. This ‘knack’ that I have, I’ve recently realized, is something that I am super grateful for. So all that time spent on my mom’s computer, Tyler’s parents computer, my Aunt Bobbi’s WebTV, and saving up for my Sidekick cell phone back in the day…it’s all paid off.

This social media biz is AMAZE-BALLS. For real. The connections I’ve made in the past couple of years have been life changing. The opportunities that I’ve been faced with have impacted me more than I realized at the time. Besides the awesome-ness of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest…and yes, I’m taking it back to Myspace and Livejournal, I want to give ya’ll an idea of what my personal ‘social media’ routine looks like. So maybe, if we ever hang out, and you see me on my phone ((which WILL happen)) it’s not because I don’t want to look at your beautiful face, its because I’m actually checking in on things that matter to me.

*I have a personal Facebook: Facebook.com/ShannonH104

*I have 2 Facebook business pages: Facebook.com/Piperspixels & Facebook.com/nine16designs

*I am the ‘manager’ of my lovely dad’s business page (which means I edit all the posts he puts up because they are most likely filled with grammatical errors) : Facebook.com/gardensolutionsmaintenance

*I have a Snapchat: @Shannonstaysfit (I HATE that Snap doesn’t allow you to change your usernames)

*I have 3 Instagram accounts: @Shanniereneehughes, @nine16designs & @piperspixels

*I have 1 Pinterest account with a decent amount of public boards (I recently deleted a LOT because they were embarrassing lol): Pinterest.com/shanniereneehughes

*I have this blog, a Livejournal, my Myspace is still active (I think), I chat with people via Google Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, Instagram Direct Message, texts, Snapchat chat, email, andddd I’m part of about 20-25 groups/forums where I am active on the daily!

So yes. I would like to think that I have a ‘knack’ or ‘knicker’ or ‘bocker’ or something for all social media. I have a reason behind all my posts, my videos, my pictures, my stories, my updates, etc. I’m not trying to annoy the shit out of you, I’m trying to SHARE life with ya’ll. If you’ve got something cool to share, I want to hear about it! So, I share. If you think I share too much, I don’t really care. You’re the one still following me ;o)

This is what my home screen looks like on my phone, and I HATE seeing those red badges, so I constantly have to clear them out!

This is not the direction I wanted this post to go in…but like I said…my thoughts are all over the place. I’ll add some more just to get them out of my head.

*I want to see a Medium. *I wish I was like super badass at creating stuff *I am proud of all that I’ve done over the last couple of weeks, shit, the last couple of months have been insane, and I’m mad proud of myself for getting through it all *I think my mom took my niece camping today, thats cool. *It’s gonna be Fall soon, YES! *I really like Mac & Cheese *I’m glad that I got to catch up with my girl Kayce last night via a little FB chat *I’m excited to get some new books in the mail *I want to build bookcases/bookshelves in the ‘nook’ thats in our house *I don’t think its actually a ‘nook’ *I’ll do it anyway *Aww, Todd Crisley is crying on the tv, I wish I could meet this dude….

That’s all. Maybe tonight, I’ll try to keep a notepad next to my bed so I can write down the important and useful information that I ponder about at 3 am instead of writing another post like this tomorrow!

Up until about 4 minutes ago, I legit thought it was Sunday. My lovely hubs is home today, he’s sick, and to be honest, I’m surprised it took him this long to catch up to the crowd. It seems like every person in our family is or has been sick recently! ((I blame it on that Southern family of mine! <3)) Take away the fact that I’m still trying to come back from having a cold, or allergies, or the ‘Michigan flu’ ((whatever that is…I might have just made it up)), I am still getting shit DONE! Just not the things I should be getting done, ha!

The weekend was packed with chaos, but also, I feel like I had a lot of downtime..how does that happen? I’ve been prepping myself, and trying to get ya’ll amped up about this new biz I’ve decided to start up, and to be honest with you, I’m SLACKIN’! Between shooting my cousins wedding, working on the never-ending bathroom remodel and baking banana bread, it has been hard to squeeze in time for much else! ;o)

I’m not going to lie though, all these little teasers and such have certainly caught the attention of many!  I’ve received a lot of messages and comments about why I’m not sharing it with everybody, or how come they aren’t special enough to know. ((My mom isn’t even on that list of people who know, but my BFF is because ‘she’s pregnant’))

Did we get some products made and prepped? YES! Did I get done all that I wanted to? NO! I’m starting to realize, that just because I see an idea on Pinterest, or I think up something in my mind, does NOT mean that it just magically gets made. I have to actually get off my ass and make it! Then I have to make it pretty, and take pics of it to post so everybody can see! I’m getting there guys, promise!

I decided today to venture into Salvation Army to see if I could spark up some ‘materials’ I needed to get this stuff done in a more efficient way, considering how the ‘process’ Matt and I went through over the weekend to get our first batch of stuff made turned out…we definitely needed to tweak some things! Let me tell you about that place! If you have the patience, it is a GOLD MINE! I wasn’t a huge fan of the Oxford one…it was small, and basically just a mess. I had to literally dig through stuff to find what I was looking for. I mean, come on folks…have some sense of organization with all this stuff. :o)

However, I came home with like 35 bags of stuff, and I’m confident that round 2 will go much smoother! I also bought like 62 books that have nothing to do with this new biz…no shame. I only spent like $23 total. SCORE!!

Tomorrow is ‘Ruby Day’ – so I’ll be playing with an almost ONE YEAR OLD cutie all day, and hopefully squeezing in some design time during naps, but then it’s back to business and my goal is to have full preview of our stuff by WEDNESDAY! I just need to figure out how to set up a website, put together the Facebook fan page, throw together some professional looking pics of this stuff, research some more, STAY OFF PINTEREST, and try to eat and sleep somewhere in between.

S’cool…I can do this.

Beards, math, some sappy-ness and an explanation!

Alrighty folks. I did it, I posted publicly ((literally, all my social media outlets are as public as public can be)) about my moving on from Beachbody. First off…holy shit. I got some AMAZING support, and I truly did NOT expect that! I was seriously sooooo worried as I hovered over the button to post that ‘announcement’ because I did not want to deal with the backlash that I was SURE I was going to get.

I got the opposite, and I just want to say a quick ‘holllllaaaaaaa!’ to those of you that reached out to me privately, via comments, or with fun emojis even, showing your support and cheering me on! ((Again, I don’t hate Beachbody, I absolutely loved coaching..it was just time for me to move on to something new))

So…I’m sure you’re all dying to know exactly what I’ve decided to do with all this free time now right?! Well, I’m not telling you yet, especially because Matt told me today that I need to stop telling so many people otherwise it’s not going to be exciting or cool when the time comes to share with you guys just exactly what we are doing!

Fiiiiiiine. I’ll zip it. But I’m obviously going to be dropping some teasers until I’m ready to pull the curtain back!

If you aren’t already, go follow @nine16designs on Instagram! That’s where I’ll be posting all teasers and announcements first! Then I’ll spread it all over every other social media outlet that I am on, most likely right after, but still. Go follow us!

Wanna know what the story behind the name is?!

Coming up with a name was QUITE the task for this girl. Let me tell you! I came up with some seriously ridiculous names, I asked a couple of my pals ((who now have been deemed my ‘test group’)), I read through books, our wedding vows, listened to some of our favorite songs…and still came up with like 2.3 decent sounding and visually appealing names. Then it hit me.

One of the days that literally changed everything about the future I had envisioned for myself…9/18. It was the day I met up my hubs ((AKA ‘The Beard” and also a long time friend at that time)) at a football game inside Ford Field. I LOVED IT! I ran it by good ol’ Matty and he informed me that the 18th was like a Tuesday, and we all know the Lions don’t play on Tuesdays….FAIL!

We looked at the calendar for 2013, because I knew I was on to something with this September thing…and after realizing it was the 8th, and not the 18th…I nixed the idea completely, because, truthfully ‘Nine8Designs’ was NOT visually appealing.

Are you still with me? I feel like I’ve lost you in this complicated mathematical story. Hold tight. I’m almost to the BEST part.

So, after I cried, and pouted for like 6 minutes and almost gave up entirely on this new venture of ours, Matt told me that our first official date was on 9/16. THAT WAS IT!

I’m gonna throw out there, that writing that previous sentence almost brought me  to tears, because I remember that date like it was yesterday. Matt had me laughing more than I had in a long, long time and I was so excited about it! (I’ll save the sappy posts for another time, though))

Alas, ‘Nine16 Designs’ was born. :o) Pretttttty neat, huh?! I think so.

But what exactly is it?! You will find out sooooooon!

I wasn’t going to do this….

….but! Here I am. I’ve been sitting on this for quite some time now, wondering whether or not there is a point to explaining why things have been a little crazy, or not the same in my social media life recently. I didn’t want to hurt anybodies feelings, or step on any toes, I don’t want people to think that I’m just a fake, or a failure or somebody who just gives up. Then, I said to myself: “I thought we were suppose to be working on the whole ‘not giving a shit what people thing or say about you’ thing!” So..here I am.

I’m gonna give you the deets on why I broke up with Beachbody and my coaching job. Yep…I’m going there.

So, lets take it back a couple years. In August of 2014, 2 months before my wedding, I started this thing called 21 Day Fix. It was awesome! I was drinking this shake that tasted better than all the other ones I’ve tried before, and the workouts, weren’t horrible. All that means is that I was able to get through most of them without crying, screaming, or throwing up. I lost some weight, felt great, and decided to try and share this newfound motivation with whoever wanted to listen. I dove FACE FIRST into the world of coaching…I changed my entire platform on all my social media accounts, I only posted what I thought people wanted to see, and not always what I actually wanted to post. I had cover photos that were basically ‘ads’ for living this super great life. ((See below)) I was adding friends left and right on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Pinterest, and in real life. (To think, I used to be that girl who never understood why somebody had like 2,254 Facebook friends…come on..you don’t REALLY know all those people!))

I quickly learned that nobody really cared. Sure, they were excited for ME, and happy for ME, but they really didn’t want anything to do with signing up and trying it out themselves. I was able to grow a small little community of super inspiring women, and I am super grateful for them today. Over the next 2 years, my life changed pretty dramatically. I traveled…and holy shit was it awesome! I went to Utah, and saw real mountains, I met SO, SO, SO many inspiring and truly caring people who I built great friendships with, I experienced Nashville, in the middle of JULY, I relaxed in the mountains, and for awhile there, I was doing pretty well, and had really big goals for my business. Then one day, it kind of just fizzled away….

I learned that I had a passion, and for the past 2 and 1/2 years, that passion was hidden under the title of Coach or Motivator. After a lot of thought, and digging into some seriously deep holes, I’ve come to realize that my passion is to help people in general. Not just in health and  fitness. I want to make people smile by being the REAL me. I want to make somebody’s day a little easier, or a little brighter. I want to HELP. Whether thats help somebody plan an event, organize their life, design something creative, or just be a shoulder to cry on. I want to be that person. You know what else, I want to BE ME. No matter what I did as a coach, I always felt like I was hiding something, because I didn’t want it to reflect on my business in a poor way, unfortunately, that seemed to have lost me some friends and possible customers. #shitty :o(

I wanted to be MYSELF! I wanted to post about going out with friends and drinking, and then doing absolutely nothing but lay in bed the next day. I wanted to share my real life, and not feel bad about it…but somehow, I had been trained to share things in a certain way, and that if I were to post pics of me boozin’ like I used to, that it would portray a not so good coach…Sorry, man, thats not cool.

So. Here I am. I cancelled my coach account, explained things to a few of my fellow coaches, and shared my thoughts with the ladies who have stuck by my side over the course of the last couple of years. LET ME SAY THIS THOUGH! I am so grateful for all that Beachbody taught me, for the friendships I made, and for the chance to truly find what works for me and also, for helping me see who my real friends are. ((Odd that it took this to show me that, but whatevs.))

What’s next for me…? I’m not telling you, yet. This blog is my new fresh start though, and I’ve got SO many exciting things in mind that I just know I am going to love being a part of and building up MY way on MY terms.

There’s a first time for everything, right?

Welp. After 32 years on this thing we call Earth, I’ve decided it’s time to listen to what all my fans have been telling me, and start writing a blog. Way to jump on that bandwagon, like 42 years late, eh? Oh well. Here I am.

Pause. I need to turn some music on…ALEXA!! Pump up the jams! Wait…it doesn’t work like that does it? Also, we don’t have an ‘Alexa’…Ok, I took care of it the old fashioned way. Cassette in boom box, press play. All is well.

Moving on. Here’s my backstory ((as if you don’t know everything already because I know you all follow all my social media accounts..stalkers)).

~I’m a wife. 2 years and 9 months strong.

~Husbands name is Matt and he has a beard. He also likes to do outdoorsy type shit. I don’t really enjoy the hunting and fishing part. Camping and drinking by fires…sign me up.

~We have 3 fur children. Piper, Schwartz and Franklin. One day, I’m sure I’ll write whole entries about those three, since they are pretty much my world. Let it be known though, there are days where I want to send all 3 packing!

~We also have 3 super important kiddos in our lives. 2 nieces and 1 nephew. They are pretty much the best thing that ever happened to me. They are all just mildly (and by mildly, I mean immensely) obsessed with Matthew. #bestuncleever

~I’m a part time nanny, part time photographer, and on a mission to find myself in about 47 other fields of work. I love change, I love getting creative, and I love sharing what I love with others. So, look forward to hearing more about things I love. (Pink starburst, for example).

So. I think that pretty much covers my life.  Oh…one more thing. I am, by marriage, a devoted Detroit Lions fan. Anybody who was at our wedding will know this, because I planned our entire thing around the Lions colors, their mascot, and my husbands general obsession with all things football. You’re welcome, babe.

Ok, I’m pretty proud of this little blog so far, I think I’m doing pretty decent at it at least…? Moving on.

What to expect? Welp. I’ll talk about our life, and let me tell you something…I’m going to be REAL, about it all. I swear, I use humor in pretty much any situation, and I have learned over the last couple of years to just not give a damn about what other people think. So, follow along, don’t follow, I don’t care either way. I just want to be able to document this amazing little thing that I call life, so that one day, I can look back on it, when I might not be able to remember all the details  ((so like tomorrow)) and smile.

Ya feel me, bro?! I’m out!

ALEXA! Play me some jams!

Ugh…I’ll work on that one.

‘Til next time! ❤
